Indians battle to double OT in loss at Circleville; fall to Jackson

The Hillsboro Indians continued to show improvement on the court Wednesday evening against a very tough Circleville Tigers team, taking the away game to double overtime, but unfortunately for the visiting Indians they were just short on the scoreboard, falling 59-53 to CHS.
The Indians were led in scoring by Jack Howland with 29 points, as the junior — who the previous game scored his 1,000th career point — collected seven two-point baskets, two 3-pointers, and he finished 9-of-11 from the free-throw line. Howland also collected five rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Scoring eight points was Brady Juillerat with two two-pointers, one 3-pointer, and he was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. Juillerat also had five rebounds and one steal.
Also with eight points was Mason Dumpert, who finished with four two-point baskets. Dumpert added four rebounds and a steal to his game totals.
HHS also had seven points from Jeven Hochstuhl, who made one two-pointer, a 3-pointer, and he went 2-of-2 from the free-throw line, while also adding three rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Dawson Barnett made a free throw for one point and had four rebounds, two assists and one steal. Tre Captain finished with one rebound.
Team totals for the Indians included 14 two-point baskets, four 3-pointers, and they were 13-of-17 from the free-throw line. They also had 22 rebounds (nine offensive), six assists and seven steals.
As for CHS, they were led by Kole Nungester with 21 points, followed by Ed Kirk with 12 points, and with 11 points was Brian Fowler. Jack Kline scored nine points, Glavine Bigam totaled four points and with two points was Lamont Halloway.
Team totals for Circleville were 20 two-pointers, two 3-pointers, and they were 13-of-23 from the free-throw line. Circleville is 8-2 overall.

On Friday, Jan. 9 the Hillsboro Indians lost a road Frontier Athletic Conference against the Jackson Ironmen, 56-39 at Jackson High School.
It was only a five-point deficit for the Indians at halftime as JHS led 8-2 after the first quarter, and following an 11-10 second frame for the Indians, the Jackson lead was 18-13.
The first-half scoring for the Indians included an opening quarter where they had two points from Mason Dumpert, and the 11-point second frame saw four points from Brady Juillerat, two points off a basket by Jeven Hochstuhl, and Jack Howland scored five points, including making a 3-pointer.
The third frame was a big difference in the game with JHS outscoring the Indians 21-11. HHS in that third quarter had six points from Howland, a 3-pointer by Dumpert, and Dawson Barnett sank a bucket for two points.
HHS scored 15 points in the fourth quarter, while the Ironmen added 17 points.
The Indians in the fourth had four points from Juillerat, two points scored by Dumpert, two 3-pointers made by Weston Kibler, and three points scored by Howland off free throws.
Howland led HHS with 14 points, making two two-pointers, a 3-pointer, and he was 7-of-11 from the free-throw line. Howland also had nine rebounds and one assist.
The rest of the Indians’ final scoring totals included Juillerat (eight points, three rebounds), Dumpert (seven points, three rebounds, one assist), Kibler (six points, two rebounds), Barnett (two points, four rebounds, one assist, two steals) and Hochstuhl (two points, two rebounds, one assist, one steal). Also for HHS, Zack Brown had two rebounds, while Easton Inman finished with two rebounds.
Team totals for the Indians were eight two-pointers, four 3-pointers, and they were 11-of-15 from the free-throw line. The Indians also collected 27 rebounds (11 offensive), four assists and three steals.
Jackson was led by Bodhi Wolford with 18 points off nine two-point baskets. Charlie Woodard totaled 12 points with three two-point baskets and two 3-pointers. Scoring 11 points for JHS was Jay Carroll with two two-point buckets, two 3-pointers, and he was 1-of-1 from the free-throw line.
Other final scoring totals for Jackson included: Eli Ray (2), Stephen Jenkins (4), Ryan Seimez (6) and Dayton Kallner (3).
JHS (3-1, 9-1) finished with 17 two-pointers, six 3-pointers and they went 4-of-6 from the free-throw line.
The loss sends Hillsboro to an overall record of 2-10 overall, with an FAC mark of 0-4.
Next for the Indians is a non-conference game on Monday, Jan 12 at Portsmouth West.
