Hillsboro soccer falls to Eastern

HILLSBORO — Returning to in-game competition following a week off for the Highland County Fair, the Hillsboro Lady Indians and Hillsboro Indians boys soccer teams lost in non-conference play against the visiting Eastern Warriors.
The Monday night soccer matches saw the Lady Indians fall by a 2-1 score, while the HHS boys lost 4-1 in the nightcap of the soccer matches at Hillsboro High School.
In the first match of the evening, the Lady Warriors led Hillsboro 1-0 at halftime as Kinley Balon scored the first goal of the game at the 30:31 mark of the first half.
The second half included Hillsboro tying the score at 1-1 when Kobie Miles went downfield against one defender and sent the ball past the keeper of Eastern with 33:43 left in regulation.
Eastern regained the lead for good with 23:13 on the scoreboard when Autumn Fahrian put the ball into the net for the 2-1 final score with the assist by Bailey Roush.
Eastern's win moves them to 3-4 overall. Hillsboro now stands at 4-2 overall.
In the boys soccer match, the Indians lost to the Warriors by a 4-1 score.
Eastern led 3-0 at halftime with Samuel Kirk scoring their first goal with 37:13 on the scoreboard. Next, Eastern scored their second goal with 32:45 left in the first half off a penalty kick made by Jayse Riggs.
EHS added their third goal at the 17:32 mark of the first half as Cayden Wills made the goal on a header off a corner kick by Riggs for the three-goal lead. Riggs had two assists in the Eastern win.
In the second half, Eastern's goal was scored by Kayne Dotson, and Hillsboro's unassisted goal was scored off a kick from Cooper Swope.
Eastern's win improves them to 9-0 overall. Hillsboro now stands at 2-3-1 overall.
