Hillsboro loses to Chillicothe by 1 run on consecutive nights

The Hillsboro Indians baseball team played their regular-season series against the Chillicothe Cavaliers on Monday and Tuesday, as CHS won both meetings by scores of 5-4 and 6-5. 

Monday (April 21) the Indians lost at home to the Cavaliers in Frontier Athletic Conference play by a 5-4 score, as all the runs for the game were scored by the end of the fourth inning. 

Chillicothe led first with a 3-0 lead after the conclusion of the first inning, but Hillsboro took the lead with a four-run bottom of the second for the 4-3 advantage. 

The Cavaliers regained the lead for good in the top of the fourth by scoring two runs for the one-run win. 

CHS ended the game with six hits and no errors, while Hillsboro had four hits and three errors. 

Zack Brown had half of the Indians’ hits as the leadoff batter was 2-for-4 with two RBI, with both of his hits being doubles. 

Jack Cornele went 1-for-3 with one RBI, while teammate Wesley Bailey finished 1-for-3 with one run, and he added an RBI. 

Walker Pence forced a walk for the Indians, and Brady Juillerat scored a run and forced a walk. The Indians also had Luke Holland score a run, plus force a walk. Also scoring a run and drawing a walk for the Indians was Brayden Oberrecht. 

Oberrecht was charged with the pitching loss, finishing with two strikeouts. Holland pitched one inning with one strikeout.

On Tuesday, April 22, the Indians lost their FAC game against Chillicothe on the road by a 6-5 score. 

This time it was Chillicothe winning in walk-off fashion by scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh to seal the win.

CHS led 1-0 with a run in the bottom of the second, and HHS tied the score with a run in the top of the fourth. The Cavaliers battled back by scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, but the Indians took the lead with one run in the fifth, then added two more in the top of the sixth. 

HHS scored a run in the top of the seventh for a 5-3 lead, but the Cavs had other plans, rallying for three runs in the bottom of the seventh to take the win over the Indians. 

Each team finished with seven hits, and both teams committed four errors. 

Wesley Bailey finished the day by leading HHS with two hits, including a double. He went 2-for-3 with one run and two RBI. 

Zack Brown was 1-for-4, hitting a triple with a run scored. Jack Cornele finished 1-for-4 with a run, and Luke Holland ended the day at 1-for-3 with a run. 

Jeven Hochstuhl was 1-for-3 as he collected an RBI, while teammate Brady Juillerat finished 1-for-3. 

Dylan Bender collected one RBI for the Indians, while Brayden Hunter scored a run and was hit by a pitch. 

Walker Pence was charged with the pitching loss, allowing one run (unearned) on one hit in 0.2 innings. Luke Holland pitched six innings for the no-decision, totaling four strikeouts, as he allowed three earned runs. 

The two losses sends Hillsboro to an overall record of 3-9 this season with a 1-5 record in the FAC.
