Hillsboro Indians run-rule CNE with 15 runs scored

The Hillsboro Indians are going into the postseason tournament with momentum, as they gained a regular-season victory Monday evening over the visiting Clermont Northeastern Rockets, 15-5 in five innings for the run-rule win. 

Hillsboro (11-11) began their scoring in the bottom of the sixth inning with six runs crossing the plate, followed by the Rockets scoring a run in the top of the third. HHS answered with three runs in the bottom of the third for a 9-1 advantage. 

CNE scored two runs in the top of the fourth, while HHS came back with four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Both teams scored two runs in the fifth to complete the game, as HHS gained a 10-run lead in the fifth inning. 

The Indians finished with 10 hits and two errors, while the Rockets had four hits and five errors. 

Brody Kelch ended the game at 3-for-4 with two runs, one RBI and two steals. 

Jack Cornele was 2-for-2 with one run, two RBI, one walk, a double and a HBP.

Walker Pence finished 1-for-2 with three runs, one walk, a HBP, and a steal. Carter Stingley was 1-for-1 with one run and one RBI, plus he had two steals. 

Von Steward was 1-for-2 with two runs, one RBI and two walks, plus he had a steal. Mason Dumpert went 1-for-2 with two runs, one RBI, one walk and two steals. Logan Barton was 1-for-2 with one run and two RBI.

Zack Brown finished with a run, one RBI and two walks. Luke Holland finished with a walk and a steal. Charlie Starks scored a run for the Indians. Brayden Oberrecht also scored a run, walked once and collected a steal. 

Brady Juillerat pitched two innings with no runs, no hits allowed and no walks with one strikeout. Oberrecht pitched 1.2 innings, allowing two earned runs with one strikeout. Brown pitched one inning with one earned run on one hit and two strikeouts. Stingley pitched 0.2 innings where he allowed no runs, no hits and no walks. 

The Indians are now 11-11 overall this season. 

Hillsboro is scheduled to play in their district tournament opener Wednesday, May 20 against Sheridan at Sheridan High School at 3 p.m.
