Hillsboro Indians lose close game to Athens in district quarterfinals

The 2025 season came to a close for the Hillsboro Indians on Wednesday evening (May 21) as they lost in the Division III SE District Quarterfinals to the host Athens Bulldogs by a 1-0 score in a game played at Logan High School.
The No. 4 seeded Bulldogs (20-5) scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the second inning as David Sharp (2-for-3) scored a run off an RBI from Dawson Kennedy (1-for-2, one walk).
Athens and the No. 9 seeded Indians combined for four total hits in the game, with the Bulldogs out-hitting the Indians 3-1. Hillsboro drew more walks than Athens, as HHS had two and AHS finished with one walk. The game also saw Hillsboro have two errors, while Athens committed one.
Hilslboro’s lone hit came in the top of the fifth inning when Luke Holland hit a two-out double on a full count, with the hit landing in right field.
The two walks by Hillsboro were forced by Zack Brown and Walker Pence.
Holland also had the tough-luck loss on the mound, having a solid pitching performance. Holland went six innings, allowing one run (unearned) on three hits and one walk with six strikeouts. Holland finished with 78 pitches, 51 for strikes.
Hillsboro ends the ’25 season at 8-16 overall, as they were 2-8 in the Frontier Athletic Conference.
