Hillsboro battles for 4-set win over Fayetteville; Davis sets new school kills record

Though the Hillsboro Lady Indians lost the first set on the road in their non-conference match against the Fayetteville Lady Rockets on Wednesday, they finished strong by taking the next three for a 3-1 match victory.
The win was also a record-breaking evening for Hillsboro senior Tylee Davis, who set a new record of having over 661 kills (and counting) for a career. Davis passed the mark of 660 held by Gracie Dean, who set the previous record in 2021.
As for the Aug. 26 match at Fayetteville, the Lady Indians lost set one by a 25-22 score, then rallied to win the next three sets by scores of 26-24, 25-15 and 25-9.
Davis finished the match with 15 kills, six aces, and 22 digs. Fellow senior Ryan Wagoner collected 12 kills, one ace, and 10 digs.
Sophomore Macy Fauber finished the match with one assist and 10 digs. Senior Marianne Mycroft had totals of one assist, two digs and a block.
HHS junior Riley Pence ended the match with five kills, two assists, three aces, and three digs. Senior Scarlett Perkins finished with two kills, 16 assists, six aces, and nine digs.
The Lady Indians also had senior Josie Rhoades finish with six digs. Sophomore Emmalee Young totaled eight kills, 20 assists, three aces, seven digs, and two blocks. Hillsboro senior Paisley Zink collected one kill, two aces, and one block.
Totals for Hillsboro included 43 kills, 40 assists, 21 aces, 69 digs, and four blocks. Fayetteville team totals were 31 kills, 22 assists, 22 assists, five aces, 62 digs, and 10 blocks.
Team leaders for Fayetteville included junior Ellie Shiffer (13 digs, 11 kills, one block), senior Maya Murphy (21 assists), sophomore Alli Sams (three aces, 10 digs), Shiffer (13 digs), senior Christina Murphy (10 digs, five kills, one block), junior Tegan Combs (seven kills, two aces), Izzy Feldhaus (four digs, two blocks), and senior Lilli Allender (six digs).
The win improves the Lady Indians’ overall record to 5-0. Next on the schedule for Hillsboro is a non-conference match on Monday, Aug. 31 at home against the Waverly Lady Tigers with a varsity start of around 6:30 p.m.
