McClain tops Zane Trace; Pryor nets 34 points

McClain's Paisley Pryor scored 34 points to start the week Monday, Dec. 16 en route to a big non-conference win by the McClain Lady Tigers over the host Zane Trace Lady Pioneers, 49-33.

In the non-conference game, the Lady Tigers trailed 12-7 at the end of the first quarter but responded in the second frame with a 15-4 second quarter for a 22-16 McClain lead at halftime.

The third quarter saw MHS outscore Zane Trace 13-9, and in the fourth quarter it was the Lady Tigers scoring 14 points and ZTHS adding eight points.

Paisley Pryor finished the game with 34 points, as she made nine two-point baskets, two 3-pointers, and she was 10-of-12 from the free-throw line.

McClain also had five points from Anna Eikenberry, Larah Henson totaled four points, Lindsey Hutchinson scored two points, Brenna Wright scored two points, Katie Cook had one point and Brie Cummins finished with one point.

Wildcats fall to Green Devils

The North Adams Green Devils kept first place in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference by defeating the Whiteoak Wildcats 74-41 at WHS on Tuesday night (Dec. 17).

North Adams led 12-8 after the first quarter, and following a 20-10 second frame, the Green Devils held a 32-18 advantage.

In the second half, North Adams scored 18 points in the third and 24 points in the fourth quarter, while Whiteoak scored 14 points in the third and nine points in the fourth quarter.

For the Wildcats, they were led by Brady Bradenburg with 16 points with eight two-point baskets, and next was Sawyer Blair with 12 points as he collected three two-point baskets and two 3-pointers.

Other final scoring for WHS included Zander Roades with nine points, Jonah Michael with two points and Aiden Crowe also scoring two points.

Team totals for the Wildcats were 16 two-point baskets, three 3-pointers and they were 0-for-3 from the free-throw line.

Breestin Schweickart led North Adams with 24 points, making 10 two-point baskets, one 3-pointer and he was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line.

Lady Tigers defeat Adena

The McClain Lady Tigers added a non-conference win to their overall total on Monday, Dec. 16 by defeating the Adena Lady Warriors, 39-38 at McClain Gym.

MHS trailed 15-8 following the conclusion of the first quarter, but the Lady Tigers came back to win the second frame at 12-10 for a 25-20 Adena lead.

In the second half, Adena scored eight points in the third and five points in the fourth quarter. McClain added 13 points in the third quarter and six points in the fourth quarter.

McClain was led by Paisley Pryor with 17 points, collecting seven two-point baskets and going 3-of-4 from the free-throw line.

Anna Eikenberry totaled 12 points with four two-point baskets, and she was 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.

Also scoring points for MHS were Larah Henson with nine points, as she finished with three two-point buckets and she was 3-of-5 from the free-throw line. Katie Cook scored one point.

Marly Halcomb led Adena with 22 points.

Wildcats take home road win against Manchester

Friday night saw the Whiteoak Wildcats earn a huge Southern Hills Athletic Conference win on the road as they traveled to Manchester and defeated the host Greyhounds, 51-44.

Whiteoak gained the win by having a first frame where they led by three points at 14-11, and after each team scored 13 points in the second quarter, the Wildcats held the same three-point advantage at 27-24.

The Wildcats tacked on nine points in the third, but their defense held the Greyhounds to six points in the same quarter for a 36-30 lead. In the fourth quarter, the Wildcats added 15 points to their final total, while Manchester finished the fourth quarter scoring 14 points.

In the win, WHS had three players finish with double-figure scoring as Brady Brandenburg and Sawyer Blair each scored 14 points, and Zander Roades totaled 12 points.

Brandenburg finished with five two-point baskets and was 4-of-8 from the free-throw line. Blair totaled four two-point buckets and two 3-pointers. Roades totaled three two-point baskets, one 3-pointer and he went 3-of-4 from the free-throw line.

Also for the Wildcats, Aiden Crowe totaled eight points with two two-point baskets, one 3-pointer and he was 1-of-1 from the free-throw line. Jonah Michael scored three points with one two-point basket, and he finished 1-of-2 from the free-throw line.

As a team, the Wildcats made 15 two-point baskets, four 3-pointers and he was 9-of-15 from the free-throw line.

Manchester was led by Parker Hayslip with 14 points and Leland Horner with 10 points.

The win improves Whiteoak to 3-6 overall and 2-3 in the SHAC. Manchester now stands at 1-4 in the SHAC and 4-4 overall.

Indians lose to Jackson

From trailing after the first quarter, to being tied at halftime with the Jackson Ironmen, the Hillsboro Indians were unable to overcome a tough second half where they were held to 16 points, en route to a 58-42 Frontier Athletic Conference loss at HHS.

The Friday night game saw the Indians trailed 16-9 after the first quarter, but they rallied for a 17-11 second frame, tying the score at 26. The second half didn’t go the way the Indians wanted with Jackson winning the third quarter at 12-9, then in the fourth the Ironmen dominated the final eight minutes, winning the frame at 29-8 for a 16-point win over Hillsboro.

Hillsboro was led by Jack Howland with 17 points, as he finished the game with four two-point buckets, one 3-pointer in the second frame and he was 6-of-6 from the free-throw line, also all made in the second quarter.

Tate Davis was next for the Indians in the scoring column with 12 points, making four two-point baskets, and he was also 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.

The rest of the Indians’ scoring was by Brayden Hunter (8), Mason Dumpert (2), Dylan Dixon (2) and Xander Lake (1).

Hillsboro finished the game with 12 two-point baskets, one 3-pointer, and they were 15-of-20 from the free-throw line.

Jackson’s leading scorer was Bodhi Wolford with 22 points, making 10 two-point baskets and going 2-of-5 from the free-throw line.

The loss sends HHS to an 0-3 record in the FAC and 2-3 overall. Jackson improves to 2-1 in the FAC and 5-1 overall.

Lynchburg-Clay nets SHAC victory

Lynchburg-Clay returned to the court following a tough loss with a SHAC win on Friday night by defeating the visiting West Union Dragons 59-51 at LCHS.

LCHS led 14-9 when the first quarter came to a close, and LCHS outscored the Dragons by four points in the second at 18-14 for a halftime lead of 32-23.

The second half saw West Union scored 14 points apiece in the third and fourth frames, while the Mustangs had a 13-point third quarter and 14 points of their own in the fourth quarter.

LC’s leading scorer was Denver Clinton with 18 points, finishing the game with nine two-point baskets, and he was also 2-of-4 from the free-throw line.

LCHS had Cody Bell total 16 points with five 3-pointers and one free throw.

The remainder of the Mustangs’ scoring included Trevor Niehaus (10), Elam Faust (9), Braedon West (4) and Asher Faust (2).

Team totals for LCHS included 16 two-point baskets, seven 3-pointers (Bell 5, Niehaus 1, Elam Faust 1), and they were 6-of-13 from the free-throw line.

Teegan Knox led WUHS with 17 points.

The win improves LCHS to 2-4 in the SHAC and 2-5 overall. WUHS is now 0-5 in the SHAC and 2-7 overall.

Tigers fall on road against Miami Trace

The McClain Tigers traveled to Fayette County Friday night (Dec. 21) and fell in a Frontier Athletic Conference game to the host Miami Trace Panthers, 55-28.

The tough game for the Tigers, on the road, began with the Panthers leading 19-2 after the first quarter, but the Tigers came back with a 17-point second frame, while MTHS scored seven points in the second quarter for a 26-19 Miami Trace halftime lead.

In the second half, Miami Trace scored 20 points in the third and nine points in the fourth frames, respectively. McClain added three points to their total in the third and six points in the final quarter. 

The Tigers were led in scoring by Zane Adams with seven points, as he made two field goals and two free throws.

The rest of the Tigers’ scoring included six points by Riley Cummins off two 3-pointers, Brandon Greene (5, one 3-pointer), Brady Binegar (3), Jordan Bell (3, one 3-pointer), Julien Evans (2) and Owen Sykes (2).

Miami Trace was led in scoring by Adam Guthrie with 12 points, making five two-point baskets and two free throws.

McClain’s total team totals were four two-point baskets, four 3-pointers, and they were 8-of-15 from the free-throw line. The Panthers’ team totals were 20 two-point baskets, two 3-pointers, and they were 9-of-14 from the free-throw line.

The win improved MTHS to 3-0 in the FAC and 6-0 overall. McClain now stands at 0-3 in the FAC and 2-3 overall.
