Tigers take down Cavaliers with 11 runs
McClain didn’t hold back in the scoring column on Tuesday night (April 23) against the Chillicothe Cavaliers in Greenfield, defeating the visitors in their Frontier Athletic Conference game by an 11-9 score.
Chillicothe was the first to score in the conference game, leading 1-0 after the first inning was completed. Neither team scored a run in the second, and in the third there were a combined 13 runs, with MHS scoring nine runs and Chillicothe adding four runs to their side of the scoring.
In the top of the fourth, CHS scored two runs for a 9-7 score with McClain in the lead. The sixth inning saw each team score two runs, and MHS fended off the Cavaliers in the seventh to seal the FAC win.
McClain not only scored 11 runs, but they collected 11 hits, with eight walks. Chillicothe finished with seven hits and one walk. Both teams committed five errors each.
Andrew Potts finished with a four-hit game, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, a steal, three runs and three RBI.
McClain had two other players with multi-hit games, as Seth Weller was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs, two RBI and a walk.
Connor McCune was 2-for-3 with one run, one RBI and a walk.
Jayden Allison was 1-for-3 with one run, one RBI, two steals and two walks. Cohen Six finished 1-for-3 with one run, a HBP, one RBI and a walk. Eli Douglas was 1-for-4 with a run and a walk.
Kaden Penwell scored a run, plus had one RBI and a walk. Owen Sykes also scored a run and walked once. Benny Vangundy also forced a walk for the Tigers.
Six pitched four innings for McClain, allowing one run off five hits and no walks. He finished with three strikeouts on 101 pitches, 59 for strikes.
Vangundy gained the win as he went three innings on the mound for the Tigers, allowing two earned runs on two hits and one walk with five strikeouts. Vangundy threw 47 pitches, 29 for strikes.
McClain is now 7-9 overall this season,T and in FAC play they are 2-6.
