Tigers baseball falls in sectional final at New Lexington

McClain Tigers baseball saw their season come to an end on Wednesday, May 15, as they lost in a Division II SE District Sectional Final game at New Lexington against the NLHS Panthers by an 11-0 score in five innings. 

MHS (10-16) went 1-1 in the postseason, but on Wednesday they totaled six hits and committed five errors in the season-ending loss. The Panthers collected nine hits and committed one error. 

New Lexington scored three runs in each of the first two innings for a 6-0 lead over the Tigers, and followed that with a four-run third and one final run in the bottom of the fourth for the 11-run lead. 

McClain had one hit from six players, with Andrew Potts going 1-for-3 and Cohen Six finishing 1-for-1 with two walks. Owen Sykes went 1-for-2, Connor McCune was 1-for-2 and Easton Ary was also 1-for-2.

The lone extra-base hit for McClain was a double by Sykes. McCune and Sykes each finished with a steal.

Potts was charged with the loss on the mound, finishing with 1.1 innings pitched, allowing six runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks with one strikeout. 

Kaden Penwell pitched one inning, allowing four runs (three earned) on three hits and no walks with two strikeouts. 

Benny Vangundy pitched 1.2 innings, allowing one run (earned) on one hit and one walk.
