McClain Tigers upend host Zane Trace

The McClain Tigers boys basketball team recently played and defeated the Zane Trace Pioneers, 46-42 at Zane Trace High School in a non-conference battle on Tuesday, Dec. 23.
The Tigers led the Pioneers, 8-7 after the first quarter, then it was the home team Zane Trace team that won the second frame at 14-10 for a halftime lead over McClain at 21-18.
The Tigers came out of the locker room strong after halftime, outscoring ZTHS 20-17 in the third quarter and 8-4 in the fourth quarter for the four-point victory.
McClain’s leading scorer was Jordan Bell with 15 points making five 3-pointers, followed by Connor Chandler with eight points.
The Tigers also had seven points each from Matthew Cummins and Julien Evans, while teammates Hudson Lovett scored six points and Brady Binegar totaled three points.
ZTHS was led by Gunnar McCullough with 14 points, followed by Grady Stewart with 10 points. Other Zane Trace final scoring included: Lantz Stevens (4), Roman Berry (6) and Hudson Williams (8).
McClain improved to 3-4 overall, and Zane Trace moved to 5-3 on the season.
The Tigers are scheduled to play again Tuesday, Dec. 30 at home against the Adena Warriors in a non-conference game at McClain Gym.
