McClain softball falls to Chillicothe in 2 straight games

The McClain Lady Tigers held a two-run lead after five innings by a 6-4 score, but the host Chillicothe Lady Cavaliers sparked a two-inning, three-run rally in the sixth and seventh innings, leading to a 7-6 Lady Cavaliers win over McClain. 

MHS scored five of their six runs in the first two innings, with a two-run top of the first and three-run second inning. MHS added their final run in the top of the fifth. 

Chillicothe scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth, then added two runs in the sixth and one run in the seventh inning.

MHS totaled six hits and one error, while the Lady Cavs had 11 hits and two errors. 

Brie Cummins was 2-for-4 for McClain with two runs and one RBI. Lindsey Hutchinson was 1-for-4 with two runs, and Olivia Stegbauer finished 1-for-4 with two RBI. Leah Lovett was 1-for-1 with one run and two walks. Gracie Bowers finished 1-for-3 with one RBI. Kenzi Wise scored one run. 

McClain totaled three extra-base hits with doubles hit by Cummins, Lovett and Stegbauer. Hutchinson and Wise each had a steal. 

Bowers pitched all seven innings for McClain, allowing 11 hits, seven runs and no walks.

In Greenfield on Tuesday evening (April 22), the McClain Lady Tigers lost to Frontier Athletic Conference foe, Chillicothe. 

The young McClain team lost by a score of 21-0, as they were held to two hits and had five errors. CHS totaled 19 hits and had two errors. 

McClain’s two hits were off the bats of Olivia Stegbauer (1-for-2, a double) and Leah Lovett (1-for-2). Kenzi Wise forced one walk. 

The loss sends McClain to an overall record of 6-11 and 2-6 in the FAC.
