McClain Lady Tigers fall to Waverly

A point differential of only three points separated the McClain Lady Tigers with the Waverly Lady Tigers and a non-conference win, as MHS fell on the road to Waverly, 45-42 on Monday, Dec. 18 at the Waverly Downtown Gym. 

In the loss, McClain scored 14 points in the first frame and eight points in the second quarter, while Waverly had a 12-point first quarter and six points in the second frame for a halftime score of 22-18 in favor of MHS. 

In the opening quarter, McClain’s 14 points came from  Kaitlyn Jett (five), Luca Matesic (three), Paisley Pryor (two), Lily Barnes (two) and Anna Eikenberry (two). 

The eight points in the second quarter for the MHS Lady Tigers were scored off baskets by Pryor with five points and Leah Lovett with three points. 

MHS scored 10 points each in both the third and fourth quarters. McClain’s third frame saw Pryor and Matesic each score two points, Barnes net three points, and with one point each were Lillie Saunders and Eikenberry.

In the fourth and final quarter, McClain’s 10 points came off baskets by Jett (a 3-pointer), Lovett with four made free throws, Brenna Wright with two free throws made, and one point off a free throw by Barnes. 

Waverly in the third quarter scored 18 points, and in the final frame they added nine points for the three-point win. 

McClain was led in scoring by Pryor with nine points, Jett with eight points, and with seven points each were Barnes and Lovett. 

The remainder of the final scoring totals for MHS were:  Matesic (five), Eikenberry (three), Wright (two) and Saunders (one).
