Lady Tigers win 3 straight games this past week

It was a winning week of softball for the McClain Lady Tigers as they earned three consecutive wins, including two Frontier Athletic Conference victories. 

The first two days of this past week (Monday, April 21 and Tuesday, April 22) the Lady Tigers defeated FAC opponent in a home-and-home series, the Washington Lady Blue Lions, by scores of 19-3 and 19-1, followed by a win Thursday (April 24) on the road against North Adams by a 7-4 score in non-conference action. 

McClain’s three consecutive victories move them to an overall record of 5-8 this season. 

MHS began the game with two runs in the first inning, then in the top of the second the Lady Tigers had a 10-run inning for a 12-0 lead. McClain’s lead went to 14 runs in the top of the third as they added two more runs to their side of the scoreboard. Washington came back with a run in the bottom of the inning. 

The Lady Tigers answered with four runs in the top of the fifth inning, while Washington scored one run in the bottom of the inning. 

Monday’s win in Fayette County saw McClain travel to Washington Court House and win by 16 runs at 19-3 in a game where they totaled 18 hits and committed two errors. Washington had five hits and also committed two errors. 

Three MHS players finished the game with three hits apiece. One of those players was leadoff batter Milla Everetts, as she went 3-for-3 with two runs, plus she collected two stolen bases. 

Brie Cummins also had a three-hit day at the plate, finishing 3-for-5 with two runs, a steal and two RBI, and one of her hits was a double. 

Kenzie Wise had a three-hit ballgame as well, going 3-for-4 with two runs, a stolen base and one RBI. 

Three Lady Tigers players also had two hits in the game, and that included Olivia Stegbauer at 2-for-4 with one run, one steal, one RBI and one walk. 

Amaya Ryan went 2-for-2 with a home run, three runs, three RBI and two walks. 

Kyndee Williams also had two hits in the win, going 2-for-3 with two runs, a steal and two RBI. 

Having one hit each were Leah Lovett (1-for-3, two runs, two RBI, two steals, one walk), Emma Posey (1-for-4, one run, two RBI, one walk) and Lindsey Hutchinson (1-for-2, three runs, one steal, one RBI, two walks). McClain also had Sarah Easter collect an RBI, and Hayley Worthen finished with one run and a walk. 

Pitching for MHS was Williams for the win, going three innings, allowing one earned run on two hits and four walks with four strikeouts. 

Worthen pitched two innings for McClain, finishing with one earned run on three hits and two walks.

The following day in Greenfield, McClain won on their home diamond 19-1 against Washington in Frontier Athletic Conference action. 

In the game in Greenfield, the Lady Tigers took control early with a nine-run first inning, then followed with six runs in the bottom of the second for a 15-0 lead. Next was Washington getting on the board with one run in the top of the third, but MHS answered with two runs in the bottom of the third and two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. 

McClain totaled 24 hits in the win and had no errors. The Lady Blue Lions finished with five hits and committed two errors. 

Two McClain players finished with four hits each, and three other Lady Tigers had three hits. 

Going 4-for-4 was Amaya Ryan, who also scored two runs and had one RBI. One of Ryan’s hits was a double. 

Also with four hits was Sarah Easter, who went 4-for-4 with three runs and two RBI, plus she collected three stolen bases. 

The top of the order for McClain each had three hits, as Milla Everetts was 3-for-5 with three runs and two steals. Brie Cummins went 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI and a walk. Two of the three hits by Cummins were a double and a triple. She also had two steals. 

Olivia Stegbauer finished 3-for-3 with two runs, three RBI and she forced a walk. One of the three hits by Stegbauer was a double. 

Leah Lovett finished the game 2-for-4 with a home run, one run and three RBI. 

Kenzie Wise also had a two-hit game by going 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI, as Wise hit two doubles and had two steals. 

Lindsey Hutchinson ended the game at 1-for-3 with one run, while teammate Kyndee Williams was 1-for-1 with one run and one RBI. Credited with a steal was Hayley Worthen, who was also 1-for-3 with one run. 

Worthen was the winning pitcher, who in three innings allowed one earned run on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts. 

Easter pitched two innings, allowing no runs on one hit and one walk with two strikeouts.

McClain returned to the softball diamond for a non-conference game Thursday, April 24 with a road game in Adams County, as they faced the North Adams Lady Green Devils, where McClain won by a 7-4 score. 

McClain led first with a two-run second inning but trailed 3-2 after the Lady Green Devils put three runs on the board in the bottom of the third. 

The score was tied at 3-3 when McClain had a runner cross the plate in the top of the fourth, then the Lady Tigers added three runs in the fifth for a 6-3 lead which stood until the seventh inning. In the seventh, each team scored one run as McClain won by three runs at 7-4. 

The Lady Tigers finished with a dozen hits, as they also had four errors. North Adams totaled eight hits and no errors. 

Milla Everetts finished with another big game, as the leadoff batter finished 3-for-4 with one RBI as one of her hits was a triple, and she had one steal. 

Brie Cummins added to her solid week of play by going 2-for-4 with one run, plus she collected two stolen bases.

Olivia Stegbauer once again had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 by hitting a double and a triple, plus she scored two runs, one RBI and a walk. 

Amaya Ryan had another multi-hit game as well, finishing 2-for-3 with one run, one RBI, one steal and one walk. 

Leah Lovett was 1-for-3 with a triple, one run, one RBI and a walk. Kenzie Wise ended the game at 1-for-4 with one run and a steal. Emma Posey totaled one RBI and forced a walk. 

Kyndee Williams was the winning pitcher by pitching four innings, allowing one earned run on six hits and two walks with one strikeout. 

Cummins pitched three innings, allowing three runs (none earned) on two hits and three walks with two strikeouts. 

The three wins this past week moved McClain to 5-8 overall this season.
