GREENFIELD — After not having a home game for almost a month, the McClain Lady Tigers varsity girls soccer team finally returned to McClain field on Thursday, Sept. 24 and lost to a very good and experienced Miami Trace team 8-1.

“That senior class of theirs is pretty solid and I knew coming in that they would be a difficult team to play,” said McClain head coach Blain Bergstrom. “We haven’t had a home game for a while and I was hoping that we would have some energy, but they scored three goals in the first five minutes and then I thought we kind of settled in.

“But then we gave three or four more there at the end of the first half and that made it much more difficult for us to come back. Miami Trace is well-coached and you could see that their girls have played together for a long time.”

The Lady Panthers had two seniors score all eight of their goals in the match, Marian Mara scored the first two and then Nora Morrison scored the next six for a double hat-trick.

Senior Larah Henson scored McClain’s only goal of the game with only 11:15 remaining in the second half.

“I guess if you want to take something positive away from this game was that we played them even in the second half,” Bergstrom said. “Our starting goal-keeper got injured on the first goal of the game and I had to put another goalie in, but I think we got to experience some things and we’ll see how it goes moving forward. We’ve got to improve.”

McCain (6-4) overall and (3-2 FAC) will host Chillicothe on Tuesday, Sept. 29 starting at 5 p.m.
