Lady Tigers beat East Clinton in 3 sets

The McClain Lady Tigers volleyball team looked impressive at home Monday night when they defeated East Clinton 3-0 in straight sets.
In the opening set of the night, McClain jumped out to an early 13-5 advantage and coasted to a 25-7 double-digit victory.
Senior Katie Cook had some big service points at the end of the game, and McClain’s front line of Brenna Wright, Kylea Toney and Anna Eikenberry controlled the net.
In game two, McClain led from start to finish and won in impressive fashion again, this time posting a 25-16 win to take a commanding two-game lead in the best of five match. Game two saw Leah Lovett have an impressive game serving, along with Cook, and the Tiger front wall again won the net game with several strong kills.
In the third and final set of the night the Lady Astros jumped out to an early 6-1 advantage but the McClain girls quickly regained the momentum and outscored East Clinton 24-8 the rest of the game and won 25-14 to seal the match with the 3-0 final score.
In the third set, Sarah Easter enjoyed a solid service game for McClain and had some solid assists setting, along with Cook and Lovett.
“I thought our team played well tonight,” McClain head coach Taylor Alsop said. “We are still working things out and learning different roles, but overall I thought we played very well as a team.
“We minimized our mistakes and controlled what we could control.”

• Serving: Leah Lovett 15-15, 3 aces, Katie Cook 20-23, 3 aces, and Sarah Easter 13-13, 2 aces.
• Attacking: Brenna Wright 14-17, 10 kills, Kylea Toney 14-17, 8 kills and Anna Eikenberry 12-14, 6 kills.
• Passing: Katie Cook 24-25, Anna Eikenberry 10-10 and Kylea Toney 9-9.
• Setting: Leah Lovett 30-30, 15 assists; Sarah Easter 28-28, 8 assists.
McClain (2-1) next travels to Wilmington on Wednesday, Aug. 21, then plays at Fairfield on Monday, Aug. 26 before returning home to host Washington Tuesday, Aug. 27 in the conference opener.
