Lions unable to keep pace with Bearcats

The Fairfield Lions traveled to Chillicothe Tuesday night to play the Paint Valley Bearcats in non-conference action at VA Memorial Stadium, where PVHS won by a 16-1 score in five innings. 

Fairfield totaled three hits in the loss with Cameron Miller going 1-for-3 with one RBI, Ben Miller finishing 1-for-3 and Weston Baldwin was 1-for-1. 

Caleb Rice collected a walk and scored a run, and Greyson Abbott forced a walk. Van Bennington was hit by a pitch, while Rice and Cameron Miller each had a steal. 

The game saw Paint Valley score two runs in the top of the first inning, followed by a seven-run second, one run in the third and six runs scored in the fourth inning. In all, the Bearcats totaled 13 hits and committed two errors. FHS had three hits and committed five errors. 

Only six of the 16 runs scored by PVHS were earned, as Zane Collins pitched three innings, allowing four earned runs with one strikeout. Spencer Hurless pitched two innings, allowing two earned runs with one strikeout. 

The Lions are now 2-5 overall following the game. Next for FHS was an away SHAC game at Fayetteville with a 5 p.m. start on Thursday, April 9.
