The Altrusa International of Highland County celebrated the club’s 30th anniversary during their September meeting.

The theme for the evening was “wear your pearls, girls.” Club members and guests enjoyed looking at old pictures and reminiscing about club memories.

Guests attending included Tammy Bader, District 5 governor, Linda Williams, District 5 first vice governor, and former charter members Mindy Hunter and Joan Winner.

There were 27 original charter members and six of them are still active in the club membership. They were recognized by receiving a “pearl” pin for their membership name tag. Those members include Candy Black, Janet Butler, Nikki Eyre, Diane Jolitz, Linda Penn and Jane Tissot.

Altrusa International of Highland County is very involved in promoting literacy in our communities. Some of the projects of the club include purchasing a new book for every student in the county grades K-5, providing books for campers and Kamp Dovetail, maintaining 10 Little Free Libraries in the county, donating books to the Veterans Home in Georgetown and many other projects.
