43rd annual Older Adult Art Show to open Sept. 22

The artwork of local older adults will be showcased at the Area Agency on Aging District 7’s (AAA7) 43rd annual Art Show that will be held September 22nd through October 17th at Bristol Village’s Glenn Activity Center, located at 625 East Fifth Street in Waverly. The AAA7 recognizes Bristol Village for their partnership in hosting the event for the third year in a row.  

Participants age 55 or older, who have entered artwork in the Show, will have these items on display at the Glenn Activity Center daily. The public is invited to visit at any time to see the artwork and also vote for the Show’s People’s Choice Award.  

For the second year in a row, a Kick-Off event will also be featured with a special walk to mark National Falls Prevention Awareness Week.  The community is invited on Monday, September 22nd from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at the Glenn Activity Center’s inside walking track. Participants will receive a free water bottle (while supplies last) and have the chance to be one of the first to see the featured art.  The event is also a part of the Ohio Department of Aging’s 10 Million Steps to Prevent Falls campaign. All steps taken at the event will be submitted to the campaign for the State’s total step count. 

Examples of art categories that have been entered in the Show include acrylic, oil, pencil, photography, fabric and three-dimensional. Judging themes include abstract, animals and birds, cartoons, floral, landscape, portraits, seascape, and still life. In addition, an essay/poetry category is also featured with these entries included as part of the display. Participants in the variety of categories represent the counties served by the AAA7 which include Adams, Brown, Gallia, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, Ross, Scioto and Vinton.
