Rainsboro’s cabaret hearkens back to bygone days

Rainsboro Elementary has brought back a much-loved event from years past at McClain High School, the cabaret.
On Oct. 15, the elementary held its second annual cabaret, something that Rainsboro teacher Marci Reeves organized in her effort to recreate a version of Dale Knauer’s cabarets from Reeves’ years at McClain High School.
This year, National Honor Society students were ushers and servers and the McClain Cadet Corps helped with set-up, take-down, clean-up, and maintaining some organization with the performers during the event.
“The Rainsboro Cabaret is an effort to raise money for the PTO, but the biggest reward is to see students step out of their comfort zone to tell jokes, sing, dance or display a talent for everyone to see,” Reeves said. “It takes a lot of courage for our students to be on stage.The feeling of accomplishment and success is only obtained from their bravery.
“Mr. Knauer gave me opportunities to shine and this is a way that we can pass on the legacy and let our students show their talents,” she said.
And performers aren’t just current students. Some of this year’s performers were students that attended Rainsboro, but have since graduated. Another Rainsboro alumni created her own band and performed original songs she has composed.
“The cabaret is a work of art with many hands involved,” Reeves said.
During the event there was a silent auction table filled with sweet treats and crafts for attendees to bid on, and leading up to the event the Rainsboro Elementary School Facebook page had a week-long bidding auction, all to benefit the PTO.
“We hope the cabaret will grow and that more people in the surrounding area will step out of their comfort zone to show us their talents,” Reeves said. “I appreciate everyone that had a hand in this year's cabaret. Anyone that would like to be involved in the cabaret next year is welcome to join us. They can get their act together and call Rainsboro Elementary. It is great fun to see so much talent.”
