William R. "Bill" Hidy, 76, of Wilmington, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2016 surrounded by his family at his home.  
 
He was born Nov. 9, 1939 in Washington Court House, the son of the late Donald Lee Hidy and Ruth Cyrene Sollars Hidy.
 
Bill had served in the U.S. Army National Guard prior to enlisting in the U.S. Navy for four years. He received his honorable discharge in 1962. Bill also served with the Wilmington Police Department for 28 years, where he was the first detective on the force. He was currently an investigator with the Clinton County Prosecutor’s Office, where he had worked for 27 years.
 
He was a member of Wilmington Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1224 and the Wilmington American Legion Post #49.
 
Surviving are his wife, Janice Hidy of Wilmington, whom he married April 23, 1982; two daughters, Sonya (Gunner) Barnet and Delilah (Jamie) Pritchett; eight grandchildren, Alyssa, Nathan, Kayden, Aiyana, Jamin, Jamie Lee, Briana and Cody; and two great-grandchildren, Milo and King.
 
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Ross.
 
Services will be held at Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home, Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at 6 p.m. with Rev. Larry Speelman officiating. Following the funeral service, military honors will be presented by the Wilmington American Legion Memorial Squad.
 
Friends will be received at the funeral home Tuesday from 3-6 p.m. A memorial reception will be held at the Wilmington American Legion Hall immediately following the services at the funeral home.
 
Contributions in Bill's memory may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
