William “Bill” Gaskell Jr.
William “Bill” Gaskell Jr., 83, of Greenfield, passed away Friday, Dec. 27, 2024 at OSU Medical Center in Columbus.
He was born Nov. 21, 1941, in Wallingford, Conn., the son of Wiliam and Dorothy (Muller) Gaskell.
Bill attended the Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts. He was the general manager of three car dealerships, Maxton Chevrolet, Dan Tobin Chevrolet and Kehls Chevrolet and was the co-owner of Fayette Carpet for 40 years.
Bill was a member of the Leesburg Trinity Church, Central Ohio Corvette Club, Hiram Masonic Lodge No. 18 Delaware, Ohio, Greenfield Lions Club, Greenfield Men’s Share Group, Kairos Ministry, and the Christian Motorcycle Association in the Reborn Riders of Washington C.H. Chapter. Bill also participated in other outreach ministries, including a week-long mission trip to Guatemala to help build stoves for families in need. He rode several times in the Tour of Scioto River Valley (TOSRV) bicycle tour, and even rode with his daughter, Judi and his son, Shawn. Bill served his community as a little league T-ball and basketball coach. He was an avid woodworker and completed many projects over the years. Bill was a kind and strong man of faith who always had a smile and words of encouragement to offer others.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Robinette) Gaskell, whom he married on May 16, 1985; six children, Judi (David) Brinson, Linda (Gil) Rhodes, Lori Gaskell, Lisa (Cody) Cooper, Shawn (Bridgette) Countryman and Brad (Amanda) Campbell; 16 grandchildren, JR Reiter, Weston Reiter, Nicholas (Meredith) Rhoads, Lindsay (Ben) Mulch, Amber (Andrew) Bruckelmeyer, Caleb Cooper, Camron Cooper, Brice Cooper, Brant Cooper, Erin (Mike) Little, April Cooper, Amber Cooper, Tanner Countryman, Crosby Countryman, Evan Campbell and Jase Campbell; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, John (Kyle) Gaskell of Sheffield Village; one sister, Lois (Bill) McElvary of Newcastle, Pa.; three sisters-in-law, Judy (Larry) McCalla, Sue Davis, Rita Bethel; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Riley Countryman; one great-grandson, Jude Little; father and mother-in-law, Edward and Helen Robinette; sisters-in-law, Jane Olsen, Joyce Cline; brothers-in-law, Bob Winter, Hal Olsen, Wayne Davis; and both parents.
Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4 at Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield with Pastor and friend, Susan Allison-Keeton officiating. Cremation will follow.
Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
