Wendell Elbert Martin, 90, of Buford, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2024.  

Wendell was born in Buford on Dec. 24, 1933, to the late Leonard and Helen (Winkle) Martin.   

He was a proud U.S. Army veteran who served during the Korean War. After his service, Wendell worked at Cincinnati Milacron, where he dedicated many years before retiring.  

He married Janet S. (Purdy) Martin on Oct. 25,1958, and together they raised three sons, Nick, Jack and and Marty. Wendell and Janet shared a love for travel, often hitting the road in search of the next great deal on antiques and depression glass. Their adventures brought them closer together and filled their lives with joy.   

An avid sports fan, Wendell enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Bengals and the Cincinnati Reds.  

He is survived by his sons. Nick (Kim) Martin and Marty Martin; grandchildren, Annie (Darby) McClain, Carla (Mike) Gibson, Nathan (Rylee) Martin, Wendy Martin, Angela (Jojo Aubry) Martin, Joey (Kayla Smith) Martin and Sara (Nick) Myers; several great- and great-great-grandchildren; along with many other family members and friends who will cherish his memory.   

In addition to his parents, Wendell was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janet S. Martin; and his son, Jack L. Martin.  

A visitation will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20 at the Davis-Turner Funeral Home in Lynchburg. Burial with military honors presented by the Highland County Veterans Honor Guard will follow in the Buford Cemetery.
