Walker "Jack" Waits Sr., 83, formerly of the Mowrystown and Buford communities, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at Highland District Hospital in Hillsboro.  
 
He was born Aug. 16, 1937 in Switzerland County, Ind., the son of the late Walter Cyril and Bessie Catherine (Osborne) Waits.
 
Jack owned and operated two mechanic shops in Mowrystown and Buford. He was a former police officer for the Village of Mowrystown and an amazing carpenter. Jack enjoyed participating in horse shows and loved animals, especially his two dogs, Cooper and Pepper.
 
Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years, Vivien Waits, whom he married June 12, 1960; two daughters, Beth (Bob) Lavallee-Bishop of Indianapolis, Ind. and Kathy (John) Waits-Lester of Wilmington; son, Walker Waits Jr. of Louden; three grandchildren, John Walker Lavallee, Andrea (Reggie) Lavallee-Maggs and Phillip Waits Manriquez; sister, Anna Napier of Danville; and several nieces and nephews.
 
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis Ray; and a brother-in-law, Clyde Napier.
 
A celebration of life for Jack's family will be held at a later date.
 
Edgington Funeral Home, Mowrystown, is serving the family.
 
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to any local humane society.
