Thomas Kent Custis, 79, of Martinsville, passed away Sunday, Jan. 9, 2022 at Clinton Memorial Hospital in Wilmington.
He was born Feb. 10, 1942 in Clinton County, the son of the late Lawrence Custis and Maxine Wilson Custis.
Tom was a member of Martinsville Church of Christ and was a graduate of Martinsville High School class of 1960, where he was a standout basketball player. Following high school, Tom played independent ball for many years. Tom was a well-known barber in Clinton County for 60 years. Always one who enjoyed sporting events, Tom rarely missed one of his grandchildren's games.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Sharon Birmingham Custis; son and daughter-in-law, Chris (Jennifer Tuke) Custis; three grandchildren, Christopher Custis, Jr., Elizabeth Custis and Jonathan Custis; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bennie and Christine (Birmingham) Branham; brother-in-law, David Appleman; and four nieces, Danica (Tony) Sharrock, Heidi (Greg) Phipps, Holly (Luis) Rodriguez and Nicole (Rob) Hull.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Vicki (Birmingham) Appleman; sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Jose Gallardo; and two nephews, Robert James Collier and Brett Ferguson.
Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022 at 1 p.m. at Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Sugar Grove Cemetery, Wilmington.
Friends will be received Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home, Wilmington.
