Thad Arley Gossett, 91, of Greenfield, passed away Friday, Feb. 18, 2022 at home.
He was born at home on March 10, 1930 in Greenfield, the son of Harley and Rena (Fenton) Gossett.
He was a 1948 graduate of Edward Lee McClain High School, where he served as the vice president. He then attended San Bernardino Valley College in California, where he earned his associate's degree in business and was a drum major who marched in the Rose Bowl Parade. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Thad was the owner/operator of the Gossett Company of Greenfield from 1956-97, supporting many community and school activities.
He attended Pisgah Church and enjoyed singing in various church choirs throughout his life. He was a former member of Greenfield Lions Club, Greenfield Boat Club and the Greenfield Merchants Association.
Many will remember Thad for his green Chevy van, either making deliveries for Gossetts or hauling kids all over town and to ball games. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix. He enjoyed traveling, especially out west, boating, camping, Mexican food, mowing, and big band music. As an avid McClain Tigers fan, he sat on the back row of the bleachers for over 50 years. He was known as “Pa” to his grandchildren, and he loved his family most of all.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Dunn Gossett, whom he married Oct. 18, 1983; one son, Tim (Jo Ellen) Gossett of Greenfield; one daughter, Mindy (Mike) Anderson of South Salem; two step-sons, Kevin (Trisha) Dunn of Durango, Colo. and Brant (Theresa) Dunn of Bellefontaine; six grandchildren, Hilary (Joseph) Remnant, Emily (Jeremy) Feasel, Joel (Natalie) Anderson, Alex (Kendra) Anderson, Trevor (Susie) Gossett and Eric Anderson; five stepgrandchildren, Taylor (Caitlin) Dunn, Connor Dunn, Aaron (Katie) Dunn, Garhett Dunn and Carter Dunn; eight great-grandchildren; one nephew, Jim (Ruth) Gossett; and two nieces, Brenda Watson and Diane Shaw.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean (Holmes) Gossett, on July 24, 1979; one step-son, Mark Dunn; one infant great-grandson; two brothers, Wallace (Betty) Gossett, and one in infancy; one sister, Wilma (Merrick) Everhart; two nephews, Chuck Gossett, Dennis Shaw; and both parents.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 25 at Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield with Pastor Jay Fabin and Pastor Larry Snodgrass officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenfield Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
