Stephen Glenn "Steve" Jones, 55, of Leesburg, Ind., passed away Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018 at his home.
He was born on April 13, 1962 in Hillsboro to Wilbert L. and Thelma Marie (Lindsey) Jones Jr.
He graduated in 1980 from Hillsboro High School, attended Salem College in West Virginia, graduated in 1984 from Anderson College in Anderson, Ind. and received his master’s degree from Indiana Wesleyan University. He grew up in Hillsboro and was an outstanding athlete in high school and college, excelling in football. Following school, he moved to the North Webster/Leesburg, Ind. area in 1994 from Anderson, Ind.
He was married on June 8, 1991 in Markleville, Ind. to Lori E. Whiteley, who survives.
He was employed at Wawasee Community School Corporation as P.E. teacher at North Webster Elementary for 21 years and was a former policeman for the Anderson Police Department for 10 years. He was a member of the Church of God in North Webster, Sons of the American Legion Post 253 in North Webster and the N.R.A. He was a coach for numerous sports teams in the Wawasee Community School System and the surrounding area.
He is survived by his wife, Lori Jones of Leesburg, Ind.; daughter, Molly Jones of Leesburg, Ind.; two sons, Jacob Jones and Hunter Jones, both of Fort Wayne, Ind.; father, Wilbert L. Jones, Jr. of Oklahoma City, Okla.; a sister, Sharon Jones of Fairborn; and two brothers, Wilbert “Billy” Jones III of Englewood and Doug Jones of Fairborn. Steve is also survived by his close Hillsboro family members, Donnie and Gerry Lynn Jones, Hoagie Jones and Seneca Kanatzar.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma Marie Jones; and his grandmother, Irene Jones, who helped raise him.
A gathering of friends and family will take place 1 p.m. Saturday, March 17, 2018, at the Hillsboro Pondo Banquet Center with Rev. Mike Paraniuk officiating. Following the celebration of Steve's life, family and friends are invited to stay and share refreshments, personal tributes and stories about Steve.
