Shelley R. Tompkins, 50, of Leesburg, passed away Friday, Nov. 5, 2021 at her home.
She was born Feb. 17, 1971 in Hillsboro, the daughter of Richard and Bonnie Sue (Price) Newland.
Shelley worked for Highland District Hospital for over 20 years and was a devoted and loving wife and mother. She loved camping, hiking, kayaking, sewing and making soap with her daughter.
She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Ryan G. Tompkins, whom she married on Oct.20, 2001 in Samantha; her daughter, Alexis Tompkins, who was her pride and joy; her mother, Sue Cox of East Monroe; her mother-in-law, Saundra “Sandy” Tompkins of Greenfield; her special father, Larry Vassar of Washington Court House; a brother, Joe (Kathy) Newland of Indian Lake; a half-sister, Becky Newland of Wilmington; three sisters-in-law, Lori Tompkins of Leesburg, Rita (Emery) Burnett of Highland and Rhonda Kelley of Leesburg; a brother-in-law, Tom (Julie) Tompkins of Jeffersonville; two nieces, Megan (Kyle) Patterson and Renee (Brandon) Husted; a nephew, Justin (Lindsey) Burnett; three great-nieces, Zoey Patterson, Callie Burnett and Ada Burnett; a great-nephew, Kentley Patterson; and several aunts, uncles and special friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Newland; her stepfather, Rick Cox; her father-in-law, Gary Tompkins; a brother-in-law, Bryan Kelley; and a nephew, Hunter Kelley.
A celebration of Shelley’s life will be held Saturday, Dec. 4, 2021 at noon at the Walnut Hill Church of Christ in Christian Union, 10449 Barger Road, Leesburg. A luncheon in Shelley’s honor will follow the service at the church.
