Sharon Kay (Talley, King) Leslie, 75, of New Vienna, passed away Friday, Jan. 21, 2022.
She seemed to pass peacefully (thanks to hospice medications) with her hand in her husband's hand, with what her sister swears was a smile on her face, and with her daughter singing "Surely the Presence of the Lord is in this Place."
Sharon was born Jan. 8, 1947, and spent her childhood in Adams County. After graduating high school, she went to Cincinnati, where she started her 40-plus years in banking and where she met her soon-to-be-husband, Dave King. They became an Air Force family during the Vietnam War and eventually returned to Ohio to raise their three children in Martinsville and Lynchburg. Dave died in 1992 from lung cancer and is greatly missed to this day.
Roger Leslie danced into Sharon's life, and they married in 1994, having almost 28 years together before Sharon's passing. They danced together until the bones couldn't handle dancing. They liked going out to eat, playing pinochle and spending time with friends and family. Music was a big part of her life. She sang in churches, at weddings, in the car and everywhere she went. She devoured books and read the same ones over and over. She made her kids play in puddles, taught them to memorize scripture, let them ride mini-bikes and horses, swim in Cowan Lake, and go for long bike rides. She found delight in rainbows and cloud shapes and sunsets. She loved babies and old ladies, and she especially loved being Mammaw to her grandchildren.
Melanoma took her from us, but we are so very blessed for the time we had with her and thankful that she is finally at peace and free from suffering. Maybe she's singing with angels now.
She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Roger D. Leslie; three children, David B. King, Michael E. King and Jamie (Tim) Patten; five grandchildren, Josiah Patten, Elijah Patten, Hannah Patten, Grace Patten and Joshua Patten; stepchildren, Lora (Mike) Bogan, Lynne (Jay) Kersey, Karen (Mike) Klaber, Tom (Sheila) Ballinger and Dean Leslie; stepgrandchildren, Katlyn Kersey, Bethany Hannenkrat, Kurt Kersey, Sierra Clark, Tasha Fiessenger, Erin Reeder, Bradley Ballinger and Gannon Klaber and their spouses and children; a brother, Raymond M. Johnson; a sister, Diana (Jack) Belcher; several beloved nieces and nephews; and many, many dear friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Frances (Boyd) Johnson; her first husband of 25 years, David S. King; and a brother, Robert W. Johnson.
A joyful (and tearful) memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 29 at Mt. Olive Church of Christ, 10021 Mad River Road, New Vienna, with visitation from 2-4 p.m. followed by a time of singing and sharing memories.
