Saundra M. Cates, 76, of Wilmington, passed away July 4, 2021 at Clinton Memorial Hospital in Wilmington.
She was born July 11, 1944 in Tennessee, the daughter of the late Benjamin McMeans and Oleta Echols McMean.
She was a member of the Chester Friends Meeting and was a graduate of the University of Maine with a BA degree in elementary education.
Surviving are her daughter, Anna Cates of Wilmington; and three sons, Edward (Marcie) Cates of Seymour, Ind., and Jason Cates and Josh Cates, both of Wilmington.
In addition to her parents, Saundra was preceded in death by her husband, Carleton E. Cates; and a sister, Billie Jean.
A memorial service will be held at Chester Friends Meeting, Friday, July 9 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Nancy McCormick officiating. Friends will be received at Chester Friends Meeting from 1-2 p.m. Friday, July 9.
