Russell E. Ernst, 78, of Greenfield, passed away Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018 at home.
He was born May 23, 1940 in Cairo, W.Va., the son of Richard and Rosella (Hills) Ernst.
He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church of Greenfield and Trinity Baptist of Findlay, where he served as a deacon for both churches. He was a former pattern engineer at Findlay Industries after 32 years of service, and he served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Quilting Sisters, Knitalong and a bagpiper for the Lion Rampant Band.
He is survived by his wife, Linda (Arnold) Ernst, whom he married Oct. 11, 1963; one daughter, Debbie Rayl of Michigan; one son, Todd (Amie) Ernst of Greenfield; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one brother, Carl (Sherry) Ernst of Findlay; and one sister, Carol (Dave) Lehman of Upper Sandusky.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Tina Jean Ernst; one sister, Rita Ernst and both parents.
Funeral service will be noon Wednesday, Oct. 10 at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield with Pastor Todd Ernst and Lonnie Kinsler officiating. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11 at the Knollcrest Cemetery, 18085 State Route 12, Arcadia 44804.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home with veterans appreciation service to begin at noon.
