Ruby J. Ross, 91, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022 at the Quaker Heights Nursing Home in Waynesville with family by her side.
She was born Feb. 14, 1931 in Pikeville, Ky., the daughter of the late Mahlon and Mary Frances (Greer) Hall.
On June 21, 1952 in Rapid City, S.D., she married the love of her life, Billy B. Ross Sr., who passed away Oct. 24, 2012.
Ruby was a devout Christian and was a member of the Wilmington 1st Church of God. A resident of Wilmington for 59 years, she loved working with numbers, having worked as a bookkeeper. Ruby had a passion for sales and enjoyed selling Sarah Coventry and Christmas Around the World. Things she enjoyed included meeting new people, watching “Wheel of Fortune,” “Jeopardy” and Christmas movies on the Hallmark Channel with her daughters and working puzzles with her family.
Surviving are her three daughters, Joyce (Doug) Ward of Wilmington, Debbie (Raymond) Umstead of Carmel, Ind. and Sandy Stagge of Waynesville; son, Billy B. (Paula) Ross Jr. of Winter Haven, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a brother, Robert (Georgia) Hall; and a sister, Margaret Sue Anderson.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ruby was preceded in death by her brothers, Maurice, James and Billy Joe Hall; sisters, Audrey Jewel Amburgy and Mary Frances Hall; and a son-in-law, Keith Stagge.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Wilmington Assembly of God, 609 West Locust Street, Wilmington with Pastor Larry Speelman officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, noon - 1 p.m. at the church. A private graveside service at the Clinton County Memory Gardens will be held Monday at the convenience of the family.
