Rose Patricia Swisshelm, 102, of Hillsboro died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2015 at the Kingwood Medical Center in Houston, Texas.

She was born Aug. 5, 1913 in Trenton, N.J., the daughter of the late Anthony and Martha Catherine Tarangel Celentana.

Mrs. Swisshelm was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, where she had served as President of the Rosary Altar Society. She had also been a volunteer at the Highland District Hospital, where she served as the first president of the Buckeye Twig; was a member and past President of the Ladies Sodality at St. Brigid Catholic Church in Xenia; was president and campaign chairman for the American Heart Association in Highland County; was president of the Peebles Garden Club and had served as a state officer for the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs; had been a longtime 4-H leader; PTO president; and had served on the Adams, Greene and Highland MRDD Board and the State Board of MRDD (Greene County Representative).

She is survived by two daughters, Geraldine (Michael) Shane of Burke, Va. and Mary Lou (James) Starr of Humble, Texas; five grandchildren, Michael (Erika) Shane of Ketchum, Idaho, Jennifer (Christian) Whitaker of Burke, Virginia, Daniel (Sarah) Starr of Houston, Texas, Brian Starr of Houston, Texas, Laura (Christopher) Duve of Lone Tree, Colo.; 11 great-grandchildren: Connor and Kaleigh Starr, Holden, Emerson and Fletcher Whitaker, Vitoria and Tiago Shane, Madeline and James Duve and Brady and Jacob Starr; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Swisshelm; one son, Gerald Franklin Swisshelm; one sister, Lucy E. Celentana; and two brothers, Michael Celentana and Rev. Gerald T. Celentana.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Michael Paraniuk at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 20 at St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 2:-4 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
