Ronald Eugene Smith, 83, of Wilmington, passed away Monday, Feb. 20, 2023 at Clinton Memorial Hospital with family by his side.
He was born March 10, 1939 in Pike County, the son of the late Alva Huffman Smith and Bertha Olive (Jordan Hatch) Smith.
On Feb. 10, 1968, he married Marilyn (Collingham) Smith, who passed away Feb. 2, 2015. Together they enjoyed square dancing and traveling.
Ronald was a baker at Gene's Pastries for many years, and after they closed he was employed at NCR, Crysteco and retired from Pennant Molding in Sabina. He was a United States Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam War.
Surviving are his stepson, Maynard Collingham of Cincinnati; stepgrandson, Jeremy Adam Collingham of Wilmington; three step-great-grandchildren, Cody Adam Collingham, Dexter William Collingham and Kinsey Lynn Collingham; special niece and her husband, JoAnn and Richard Culberson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Ronald was preceded in death by a step-great-grandson, Liam Joseph Collingham; two brothers, Richard and Jim Smith; six half brothers, Robert, Clayton, Wesley and Leslie Smith and Earl and Alva Hatch; sister, Mary Olvis; and three half sisters, Lela Blankenship, Nola Cooper and Juanita Knisley.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023 at noon at Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home, 97 W. Locust St., Wilmington, with Pastor Mike McCormick officiating. Interment will follow in the Clinton County Memory Gardens, Wilmington, where the Wilmington American Legion Post #49 will accord full military honors.
Friends will be received Saturday from 11 a.m.-noon at the funeral home.
