Robert “Rocky” J. Grazilla, 77, of Hillsboro, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2022 at the Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati.
He was born June 15, 1944 in Shamokin, Pa., the son of the late Andrew and Agnes (Frosheski) Grazilla.
After graduating high school, Rocky proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, serving two tours during the Vietnam War and retiring from the Air Force after 20 years of service. He began his service at the Warner Robins Air Force Base, then his duties took him to the Philippines, Vietnam, Germany, Shaw Air Force Base, and he retired from Fort Benning in Georgia. He received many medals during his service, including Air Force Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Longevity Service Award, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
After retiring from the Air Force, Rocky spent 21 years with the United States Postal Services in Sharonville. He enjoyed watching many sports; however, his two favorites to watch were the Minnesota Vikings and the Atlanta Braves. He enjoyed being outside and listening to music, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.
Rocky is survived by his wife of 47 years, Kathy Grazilla, whom he married Sept. 5, 1974 in South Salem; two sons, Scott (Ashley) Grazilla of Leesburg and Zach (Morgan) Grazilla of Amelia; two granddaughters, Riley and Monroe; a sister, Barbara (Harry) Nahodil of Shamokin, Pa.; his mother-in-law, Anna Newman of Hillsboro; brother-in-law, Edwin (Sherry) Newman of Leesburg; sister-in-law, Nancy (Rick) Miller of Hillsboro; stepfather-in-law, Jerry Cline of Wilmington; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, Jack Grazilla, Gilbert “Gib” Grazilla, Andy Grazilla and Evelyn Rebuck; and his father-in-law, Edwin Newman Sr.
Graveside services, with military honors presented by the Highland County Honor Guard, will take place Friday, Jan. 14, 2022 at 1 p.m. in the Resthaven Memory Gardens. The Grazilla family asks that everyone please wear a face covering while attending the graveside services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Boys Town Saving Children, PO Box 8000 Boys Town, Neb. 68010 or to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kan. 66675-8516.
