Robert Earl “Pete” Shaffer, 95 of Lynchburg, passed away peacefully Friday, April 22, 2022 at The Laurels of Hillsboro.
He was born April 8, 1927 in Lynchburg, the son of the late Elmer Leroy and Carna Serena (Cadwallader) Shaffer.
Mr. Shaffer was a Lynchburg High School graduate and attended Wilmington College and the Ohio State University. He had been a member of the Young Farmers Association, the Soybean Producers Association, as well as serving on the Lynchburg-Clay School Board, the Board of Highland Savings/Liberty Savings Bank, the Boards of the Production Credit Association (PCA) and Lebanon Production Credit and the Soil Conservation Board.
Pete was a lifetime farmer and was proud of the family farm's designation as a Century Farm. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, was a member of the Allensburg Church of Christ and was a 75-year member of the Lynchburg Lodge 178 F and AM.
Mr. Shaffer is survived by his wife, Nancy Lee (Marsh) Shaffer; four children, Denise (Randy) Kuntz of Wilmington, Colleen (Dennis) Mount of Lynchburg, Becky (Terry) Davidson of Hillsboro and Joe (Claudia Levesque) Shaffer of Fishkill, N.Y.; eight grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Everett Shaffer; and a sister-in-law, Mary (Allen) Shaffer.
Visitation will be noon-2 p.m. Friday, April 29 at the Davis-Turner Funeral Home in Lynchburg. Masonic services will begin at 2 p.m., followed by the funeral service. Bob Stevens will officiate.
The Highland County Veterans Honor Guard will present military honors at the funeral home immediately following the funeral service. Burial in the Lynchburg Masonic Cemetery will take place at a later date at the convenience of the family.
