Robert E. Parker, 95, of Hillsboro, passed away Monday, April 5, 2021 at his home.
He was born Dec. 30, 1925 in Chicago, Ill., the son of the late Ray and Frieda (Voltz) Parker.
Mr. Parker was a proud World War II veteran of the United States Navy. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hillsboro for many years, where he served as a deacon and an elder. He was past president of the Hillsboro Lions Club, having been a member for 55 years and received the Lions Club Melvin Jones Award. He also served as the Lions Club Eye Chairman and was the manager of their candy store for many years.
He was a member of the Highland County Senior Citizens, Highland County Historical Society and Highland County YMCA since their opening. His most beloved hobbies including boating, water skiing, teaching others to water ski and traveling. He especially loved riding on steamboats and rode on them at all the Tall Stacks festivals in Cincinnati.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Susan (Decker) Parker, whom he married Oct. 18, 1958 in Vincennes, Ind.; two children, Randal (Esther) Parker of Mission Viejo, Calif. and Sharon (Duwayne) Rains of Waynesville; three grandchildren, Hilary (Graham) Morgan of Lebanon, Lt. Elijah (Cosette) Rains of Williamsburg, Va. and Aubrey Rains of Waynesville; four great-grandchildren, Kelton, Savanah Joy, Bennett and Camden; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Anne Hagedorn.
A visitation was held Friday, April 9, 2021 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Hillsboro. The funeral service immediately followed visitation at 1 p.m. Friday, April 9, 2021 at the church. Rev. Terry Washburn officiated. The Highland County Veterans Honor Guard presented military honors immediately following the service at the church. Graveside committal services were held at noon at the Vincennes City Cemetery, Vincennes, Ind. on Saturday, April 10, 2021.
