Robert E. “Gene” Gregory, 74, of Vandalia, passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2017.
He was born Dec. 26, 1942 in Salt Lick, Ky. to the late William F. and Henrietta (Royse) Gregory.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Carroll and Clinton; and two sisters, Elizabeth and Veneta.
Gene had a zest for life and loved music, cars, travel, trivia and reading. He served six years in the U. S. Air Force Reserves stationed at the Clinton County AFB in Wilmington. He retired in 1996 from Chrysler Motors with 31 years of service.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 668 (Vandalia) and the AMVETS Post 99 (Vandalia). He was dearly loved by his family and friends and will be sorely missed.
Gene is survived by his wife of the past 33 years, Marlys (Yagow) Gregory; one daughter, Trish Crawford (David); grandson, Matthew Gustin (and his fiancée, Amber Gebhardt); great-granddaughter, Madison Gustin; brother, James Burke; two sisters, Willa Michael (Ralph) and Charlotte Cooper (Jay); and by his extended family and many good friends.
The family will be receiving friends from 5-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. Services will follow at 6:30 p.m. with Pastor Steve Gettinger officiating. After the funeral service, all are invited to join the family for a time of food and fellowship at the AMVETS Post located at 1123 S. Brown School Road, Vandalia.
