Richard Jennings Martin

Richard Jennings Martin, 65, of Greenfield, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015 at The James Cancer Hospital in Columbus with his family and friends by his side.
He was born in Greenfield on Jan. 11, 1950 to Alfred and Jewel (Webb) Martin. He was the oldest of three children.
He married his high school sweetheart, Carole (Cope) Martin, on Nov. 2, 1968. He served in the U.S. Army for four years as a high-powered Radar Specialist and worked as manager of the Kroger Central Trailer Repair Shop in Washington C.H. for 25 years and then as a self-employed electrician up until his time of illness. He attended church at the Gathering Place in Washington C.H. and was a 1968 graduate of the Edward Lee McClain High School.
Richard’s passion was music, and he began singing while stationed in Germany and later performed at a variety of venues, ranging from local events to televised shows such as “You Can Be a Star” and the Grand Ole Opry, which was a Father’s Day gift from his son, Brad. He demoed numerous songs for many renowned Nashville artists and particularly enjoyed performing music with his children.
Richard is survived by his wife, Carole and their four children; Melissa Lea Grate, Richard Jennings (Cindi) Martin, Jr., Bradley Curtis Martin and Molly Fern (Eric) Stegbauer; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two siblings, Patricia and Beverly Martin. Richard was loved by his family and admired by all those who knew him. He will be sorely missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 31 at the First Baptist Church in Greenfield, 125 N. Washington Street, Greenfield, Ohio with Rev. Richard Martin, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenfield Cemetery with military rites to be provided by the Concerned Veterans of Greenfield.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
