Pvt. Dylan Michael Trefz, 21, of Greenfield, passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 in Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas.
 
He was born on May 7, 1996 in Washington C.H., the son of Ian Joseph and Angela Annette (Ellenberger) Trefz.
 
Dylan had an infectious smile that would light up any room. He loved, cared for and protected everyone close to him, and he had a giving heart and would do anything for anyone in need.
 
He served in the U.S. Army Foxtrot 232nd Medical Battalion and Alpha 3rd Battalion 10th Infantry. He was a former employee of Greenfield McDonald’s, Greenfield Exempted Village Schools, Ahresty of Wilmington and a corrections officer for the Ross County Sheriff’s Office. He attended Ohio University of Chillicothe, where he played baseball. He was a 2014 graduate of the Edward Lee McClain High School, where he was a four-year member of the football team, three-year member of the baseball team, three-year member of the wrestling team, Symphonic, Concert and Show Choir and also served as a McClain High School football defensive line coach and Junior High wrestling coach.
 
Besides his parents, he is survived by one brother, Devin and one sister, Destiny, both of Greenfield; girlfriend, Desriel Brewer of Greenfield; grandparents, Larry (Erma) Trefz of Greenfield, Tina (Roy) Nutt of Lynchburg, David (Shawna) Ellenberger of Washington C.H. and Debra (Gary) Johnson of New Vienna; great-grandparents, John (Charlene) Shoemaker of New Vienna; aunts and uncles, Cheryl (Kevin) Landrum of Greenfield, Heather (Rob) Stone of New Vienna, Hannah Ellenberger of Washington C.H., Travis Ellenberger of Washington C.H., Elizabeth (Ben) Fryman of Greenfield, Chris (Krystal) Phillips of Bowersville, Jeremy (Melissa) Phillips of Washington C.H. and Steve Phillips of Washington C.H.; and numerous cousins, great-aunts, great-uncles, family and friends.
 
He was preceded in death by great-grandparents, Floyd and Libby Bartley, Albert and Joanne Ellenberger and Rodney and Kathleen Trefz; cousin, Chelsey Lynn Souders; and special friend, Zarse Good.
 
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 8 at the McClain High School Gymnasium with Rev. Mark Current officiating. Burial will follow in the South Salem Cemetery, where military rites will be provided.
 
Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Friday, July 7 at the gymnasium.
