Pearl E. “Gene” Garrett
Pearl E. “Gene” Garrett, 89, of Greenfield, passed away Sunday, Dec. 22, 2024 at home.
He was born Aug. 14, 1935, in Vinton County, the son of Edward and Resa (Ward) Garrett.
He attended Chapel of Hope in Greenfield and Freewill Baptist Church in Samantha.
He retired in 1986 as an independent trucker, former pastor and machinist of Columbia Research. He later had Gene’s Small Engine Repair shop on Edgewood Ave. in Greenfield and was known as the “Lawnmower Man.”
He is survived by his wife, Susan Jo (Marquez) Garrett, whom he married on March 22, 2023; five daughters, Gail (Kevin) Parsley of Williamsport, Ginger Wolfe of West Union, Tracey (Joe) Johnson of Winslow, Ark., Joy (Jeff) Pence of Greenfield and Jeri Raike of Greenfield; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Sech; nine nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda L. Garrett on September 23, 2018; one grandson, Michael Aaron Stevens; one granddaughter, Melinda Sue Stevens-Fauver; one brother, John Garrett; one sister, Norma Jean Harper; and both parents.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26 at Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield with Pastor Ella Kolle officiating. Burial will follow at the South Salem Cemetery.
Visitation will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
