Orville W. Vance Jr.
Orville W. Vance Jr., 93, passed away peacefully at his home Monday, May 1, 2023.
He was born Dec. 23, 1929, the son of the late Orville Sr. and Mary Catherine Vance.
Orville “Bill” dedicated his life to farming. He was always willing to help his neighbors. One of his favorite hobbies was gardening and blessing family and neighbors with his bountiful harvest of vegetables and flowers. He was very active in the Farm Bureau and 4-H and holds the first grand champion award for the 1949 Highland County Fair Steer Show. It was not uncommon for people to let the family know that Bill was seen going through the countryside on his bush hog, even at the age of 92. He loved doing things for others and being on his tractors.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Joanne (Collins) Vance; a son, John Richard Vance; and sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Charlie Caldwell.
Survivors include his wife, Dottie (Countryman) Vance; son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Shirley Vance of Hillsboro; daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Randy Frost of Peebles, Elaine and Jeff Gilliland of Hillsboro and Karen and Mark Noecker of Delaware, Ohio; stepchildren, Donna (Chuck) Stapleton, Tim (Lisa) Countryman and Mike (Nancy) Countryman; grandchildren, Brian (Lori) Vance, Steve (Amy) Vance, Shane (Laura) Schraw, Jeremy (Brandy) Vance, Mechell (Doug) Karnes, Adam Vance, Tye (Sabrina) Gilliland, Josh (Paige) Czerpak, Chase Gilliland and Kyle Czerpak; eight stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 20 step-great-grandchildren; four nieces; and special friends, sister-in-law and late husband, Sandy and Bob Sturgeon.
