Omar Jasper Hedge
Omar Jasper Hedge, 84, of Lynchburg, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at Hospice of Hope at Adams County Regional Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 25, 1938 in Westboro, the son of the late John W. and Elizabeth (Johnson) Hedge.
Omar started farming, but quickly developed a passion for truck driving. He worked the rest of his life driving trucks for Green Industries and Ryder, and after retirement he hauled grain for Jim Mootz and lots of other local farmers. He was a member of the Masons and liked to go fishing. He and his wife enjoyed camping and took their motor home across many states on trips. Omar’s great joy was his grandkids and great-grandkids. He always held a special place in his heart for his dog, Missy.
He is survived by his wife, Rita Henize Williams Hedge, whom he married Feb. 6, 1993; his son, Donald “Donnie” Hedge of Lynchburg; stepsons, James “Tom” (Kelly) Williams of Lynchburg, Todd (Sandy) Williams of New Vienna and Chuck (Becky) Williams of New Vienna; grandchildren, Kayla (Michael) Fulmer and Gregory Robinson; stepgrandchildren, James (Reva) Allen, Brock (Chelsea) Allen, Courtney Tenas, Ashley Tenas, Amber Allen, Kara Williams, Cody Paige, Ciera (Noah) Fenner, Austin Hatcher, Shaffer VanWinkle, Shelton VanWinkle, KayLee Adams and Carsson (Ryan) Mootz; great-grandchildren, Orin Robinson, Jasper Fulmer, Lana Murphy, Maegan Kirby and Liam Mootz; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Hedge; daughter, Carolyn Robinson; stepdaughter, Grindle Allen; siblings, Augusta Ducklo, Helen Hedge, Mearl Hedge and John Hedge Jr.; nieces, Candy Hedge and Cathy Chowning; and nephew, Kenneth Ducklo.
Visitation for Omar will be held Wednesday, April 5, 2023 from 6-8 p.m. at Davis Turner Funeral Home in Lynchburg. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 6, 2023 at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home. Pastor Calvin Martin will officiate. Burial will follow at Lynchburg Masonic Cemetery.
