Olin Ernest Rumfield, 74, of Lakeland Fla., formerly of Chillicothe, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2021.

He was born June 25, 1947 in Highland County, the son of the late Ernest Olin and Jessie (Knisley) Rumfield.

Olin was a 1965 graduate of Paint Valley High School and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, where he earned a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. A few years after returning from Vietnam, he started working for the Chillicothe Telephone Co. and continued with Horizon for nearly 40 years before retiring in 2005. Olin was a member of the American Legion Post 14 and loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting deer, mushrooms and ginseng. He also enjoyed growing any kind of flower, fruit or vegetable.

Olin is survived by his wife of, 53 years, Telytha "Tice" (Minney) Rumfield; his children, Amanda (Scott) Stewart of Chillicothe and Olin Ernest “Ernie” (Brandy) Rumfield, Jr. of Lakeland, Fla.; grandchildren, Zach (Samantha) Rumfield and Taylor Sue McKenzie Rumfield; a great-granddaughter, Avery Rumfield all of Lakeland, Fla.; six stepgrandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; and one due in February 2022; three brothers, Roy Rumfield of Canyon Lake, Texas, Robert Rumfield of Hillsboro and Roger (Carolyn) Rumfield of Bainbridge; and several nieces and nephews.

Olin was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Charles Rumfield; a sister, Millie Houser; a brother, Jim Rumfield and his wife Carolyn; sisters-in-law, Waukera and Norma Rumfield; and his father-in-law and mother in-law, John Minney and Ruby Minney.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26 at the Smith-Moore-Ebright Funeral Home in Bainbridge with the Rev. Dane Knapp and Ernie Rumfield officiating. Burial will follow in the Twin Township Cemetery with military honors by the Ross County Honor Guard. Friends may visit with Olin's family from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
