Naomi (Angel) Bousman, 86, of the Allensburg community, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at her home.
She was born June 18, 1936, in Austin, Ind., the daughter of the late Hurem and Ollie (Creech) Angel.
She was the youngest of 10 siblings and last survivor. She was the only sibling to earn a college degree. Naomi earned her bachelor’s degree from Hanover College in Indiana and her master’s degree from the University of Cincinnati. She enjoyed her career in teaching business classes, physical education and driver’s education. After 46 years, she retired from Sycamore High School in Blue Ash in 1993. The other passion in her life was serving Jesus Christ through ministries associated with Christian churches and churches of Christ. For 15 years, she was the summer athletic director at Whitewater Christian Service Camp, Vevay, Ind.
In the early 1970s, she was a member of the LaJaNa Gospel Trio based out of Versailles, Ind. Christian Church and often sang for Ed Bousman revivals which led to her involvement with the God Is Just A Prayer Away (GIJAPA) ministries, founded by Ed Bousman. Initially this included accounting, bookkeeping and database for a monthly newsletter. In addition, she became nurse to Ed’s first wife, Roberta, when she developed brain cancer. One of Roberta’s dying requests was for Naomi to take care of her “Eddie.” Always the overachiever, Naomi married her late husband, Ed Bousman, on Dec. 18, 1982. At this point, her ministry with GIJAPA exploded, this included speaking at women’s Christian retreats, writing Bible studies, writing a book entitled “The Littlest Angel,” missionary trip to Haiti, and taking care of all GIJAPA’s business activities. One of the last requests Ed made of her prior to his death was to keep GIJAPA going for as long as she could. She did so for the past 11 years.
Following Ed’s death on May 16, 2011, she was asked by her minister, Bob Stevens, to lead a Sunday School class for widows and single women. She did so up until her death. Perhaps the only thing that Naomi excelled even more so than in her teaching and Christian service was the love for her family.
Naomi is survived by two children, Eric (Catherine) Vail of Cincinnati, and Melanie (Joe) Rightmyer of Holtville, Ala.; three grandchildren, Amanda (Alex) Rosen, Emily (Mykle) Cain and Casandra Rightmyer; three great-grandchildren, Ezra Rosen, Penelope Rosen, and Vivian Rosen; close friends, Darlene Michael, Bea Hill, Bob Stevens and his late wife, Dianna, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. Sunday, July 10 at the Allensburg Church of Christ. Funeral service will follow visitation at 5 p.m. July 10 at the church. Burial will take place at 9 a.m. Monday, July 11 in the Lynchburg Masonic Cemetery.
