Melvin Eugene Lynch, 77, of Lynchburg, passed away Sunday, Jan. 31, 2021 in Dayton.
He was born Jan. 30, 1944 in Pettyville, W.Va., the son of the late Frank Rector Lynch and Bertha Pearl (McCoy) Lynch.
Melvin was a graduate of Parkersburg High School in Parkersburg, W.Va. He was a member of the Lynchburg Lodge #178 F. and A.M. and the U.A. Plumbers Local Union 68, Houston, Texas. He worked for Fluor Alaska, Inc. as a foreman on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline from July 1975 to September 1977, stationed at the Valdez, Alaska terminal site. Melvin enlisted in the military in 1966. He served during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Air Force Security Police at Blytheville Air Force Base, Blytheville, Ark.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sharon Louise (Scott) Lynch; four children, Heather Louise Lynch, Megan Scott Lynch, Brian Eugene (Michelle) Lynch and Shaun Douglas Lynch; five grandchildren, Courtney (Matt) Warne, Brian “Tyler” (Abby) Lynch, Alex Lynch, Aidan Blake Lynch and Hayden Cole Reynolds; three great-grandchildren, Brayden Warne, Sophia Warne and Madden Tyler Lynch; a brother, Gene (Peggy) Lynch; a sister, Evelyn (Gene) Riffe; several brothers-in-law; a sister-in-law; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by five sisters, Gladys, Virginia, Blondena, Frances and Regina; and four brothers, Charles, Russell, Lloyd and Robert.
Private graveside services were held Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021 at 1 p.m. in the Dunn’s Chapel Cemetery, Hillsboro, with military honors presented by the Highland County Veterans Honor Guard. A Masonic service was held prior to graveside services.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Fragile-X Center at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, Attn: Lauren Bosse, P.O. Box 5202, Cincinnati, Ohio 45201-5202 or any veteran’s organization of the donor’s choice. The family was served by the Davis-Turner Funeral Home in Lynchburg.
