Mary Maxine Smith

Mary Maxine Smith, 93, of Greenfield, passed away Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024 at Adena Regional Medical Center of Chillicothe.
 
She was born Oct. 2, 1931 in Highland County, the daughter of George Edward and Myrtle Marie (Carman) Hamilton.
 
Mary was a 1949 graduate of Edward Lee McClain High School. She was a member of the Greenfield Church of Christ, former member of Y-Gradale, 4-H leader and Girl Scout leader.
 
She retired as a cook from Hills and Dales in 2005 and was formerly a cook at the Greenfield School District and Leigh Lane Care Center.
 
She is survived by two sons, James M. (Vicki) Grimsley of Liberty, Ky. and John M. (Johanna) Grimsley of Meade, Ky.; three daughters, Joan M. (Paul) Buehlman of Honeoye, N.Y., Julia M. Baxla of Greenfield and Marilyn Dee Carpenter of Hillsboro; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, W. Ray (Vicki) Storts of Chillicothe and Michael (Helen) Beechler of Michigan; one sister, Rita Beechler of Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
 
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Lee Smith, on April 10, 1991; former husband, James G. Grimsley; two stepdaughters, Barbara Lee Smith and Deborah Gale Hammel; two grandsons, Tyler Stanforth and Miles Baxla; several brothers and sisters, including Edward B. Hamilton; and both parents.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 1 p.m. at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield with Pastor Danny Dodds officiating. Burial will follow at the South Salem Cemetery.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
