Marvin D. Hakes, 77, of Hillsboro, died Friday morning, March 23, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Nov. 29, 1940 in Hillsboro, the son of the late Harry L. and Winifred McKinney Hakes.

Marvin had been the store manager for the Sherwin-Williams Company in Hillsboro for many years. He was a faithful member of the Hillsboro First United Methodist Church and was very active in the church youth programs. He and his wife Pat were also very active in the Emmaus Communities in Wilmington and Chillicothe.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Parks Hakes, whom he married July 29, 1960; two sons, Scott (Jill) Hakes of New Richmond and Andy Hakes of Cincinnati; two grandchildren, Matthew Hakes of Fairfax, Va. and Daniel (Molly) Hakes of Cincinnati; one sister, Myrna (Tom) Hudson of Hillsboro; several nieces and nephews; and special cousins, Paul and Betty Wilson of Hillsboro.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Dr. Jerry L. Hakes and his twin brother, Marlin G. Hakes.

Services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, March 26 at the Hillsboro First United Methodist Church. Pastor Derek Russell will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Hillsboro First United Methodist Church.
