Margery C. Barney, 89, of Hillsboro, died Thursday evening, Dec. 10, 2020 at the home of her daughter in Dublin.
She was born Feb. 5, 1931 in Hillsboro, the daughter of the late Grover C. and Pearl Prine Collins.
Margery had retired after 20 years of service as a supervisor for the American Electric Power Company. She was a member of the Hillsboro First Baptist Church, a charter member of the Hillsboro Emblem Club #277 founded in 1955 and a member of the Jr. Mothers Club.
She is survived by three children, Ellen Barney (Jay) Sycks of Dublin, John Miller (Colleen) Barney of Hillsboro and Rebecca Jane Barney of Chillicothe; and two grandchildren, Cullen and Susanna Barney.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Ashton Barney, on June 15, 2018; one son, Brian Ashton Barney; one sister, Helen C. White; and two brothers, George D. Collins and Frank W. “Squeak” Collins.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18 at the Hillsboro First Baptist Church. Pastor Clay Self will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon until 1:00 p.m. Friday at the church. Hillsboro Emblem Club services will be held at 12:45 p.m. on Friday prior to services. Social distancing will be observed, and face coverings will be required. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will also be having a celebration of Margery’s life at a later date.
