Maralyn L. Thompson, 96, of Hillsboro, passed away Friday, Oct. 8, 2021, at The Laurels Skilled Nursing Center with her family by her side.
She was born on April 10, 1925, in Kalona, Iowa, the daughter of the late Charles O. and Fern (Rogers) Brown.
Maralyn was an elementary school teacher for many years, and she also tutored young adults to pass the GED. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and she will be deeply missed. She was a strong woman of faith and shared her love of the Lord with others. Her positive spirit was contagious and inspiring. She was always very thankful regardless of her circumstances. A loving, caring and giving person, she loved to cook/bake, do canning, garden and fish. She was the best mom and grandma.
Maralyn is survived by two children, Linda (Peter) Klein of Hillsboro and Edward (Laura) Thompson of Plainfield, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Travis Klein of Athens, Kevin Klein of Honolulu, Hawaii, Kelly (Nathan) Welch of Powell, Holly Johnson of Nashville, Tenn., Casey (Dawn) Klein of Cameron, N.C., Daniel Thompson of Plainfield, Ill. and David (Megan) Thompson of Wheaton, Ill.; four great-grandchildren, Logan Klein, Lani Klein, Landon Klein, and Nora Welch; a brother, Charles “Arlis” Brown of Hillsboro; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank E. Thompson, in 2001; a son, Steven Thompson; and two sisters, Velma Zanca, and Gwen Oakes.
Celebration of Maralyn’s life will be 3-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Memorials may be made in Maralyn’s name to the Community Care Hospice, 1669 Rombach Ave., Wilmington, Ohio 45177.
