Louise A. Smith, 87, of Hillsboro, passed away Monday, March 28, 2022 at her home with her family by her side.

She was born on Oct. 5, 1934, in Sardinia, the daughter of the late Roger and Augusta (Cumberland) Williams.

Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Sardinia High School, and she was a foster parent to many children for over 20 years. She was a longtime member of the New Hope Baptist Church, where she held many positions such as pastor’s aide, custodian and women’s usher board. She sang in the senior and fellowship choir. She was New Hope Baptist Church Woman of the Year in 2001, and she was an honorary member of the New Hope Baptist Church Missionary Society. Mrs. Smith enjoyed watching soap operas and walking. Most of all she loved family events, reunions, and spending time with her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her three children, Robert Lee (Terri) Smith of Hillsboro, John Smith of Hillsboro and Nancy Smith of Washington Court House; a special son, Keith Ford Sr. of Columbus; seven grandchildren, Christopher Stewart, Leon Smith, Jasmine Cumberland, Ashley Cumberland, Jazmine Nash, Christopher Nash and Miracle Curtis; six great-grandchildren, Amani Cumberland, Kamia Cumberland, Jaxon Smith, Cameron Martin, Duncan Martin and Nora Martin; special grandchildren, Callie Post, Jennifer Patrick, Melissa Fischer, Donyel Watson and Jessica Dammeyer; two nephews, Paul Williams and Gerald Williams; a niece, Bernita Davis; special family, Rhonea Watkins, Marilyn Williams, Velma Cumberland, Edith Cumberland, Joyce Kittrell, Brenda Coleman, Carla Burns, her neighbor for over 50 years, Teresa Williams, and her New Hope Baptist Church family; a special classmate, Richard Roth; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Robert Smith, on April 22, 2013; two brothers, Paul and Richard Williams; a host of aunt and uncles, including an uncle, Stanley Cumberland on Jan. 31, 2022.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, April 1 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 2 at New Hope Baptist Church in Hillsboro. Rev. Michael Hudson will be assisting Pastor Tyrone Lawes with the service. Burial will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery.
